Technology Autobiography

When I first thought about this topic I didn't think technology was a big part of my life especially growing up I was always outside as as kid and a teen.  However when I looked at my life in the pst few years I realized that technology really was and is a big part of my life.  I think now a day we take it for granted to the point its almost like breathing.  Between my top three devices that help my learning I would have to say my laptop is the most important to my learning.  However my laptop learning is almost always not academic learning but life learning.   For example I recently learned how to do all the basic mechanical maintenance needed for a 2  cylinder carbureted motorcycles.  Something I personal would not learn in school but is very much something I should know for my life.  Most of my early musical knowledge and understand came form youtube tutorials before I started taking lessons.  The accessibility of a laptop and all this one device can do is just limitless when is come to learning, which is why most students own rent of use a laptop almost every day.  My cellphone is really something I never used until I started teaching piano lessons myself.  Not only to contact the parents and guardians of my student but also my entire scheduling system for all my weekly lesson is n my phone.  Reminders of who is playing and such my phone is really what taught how to organize my life. Lastly my xbox 360 is very important to me because through playing games online I met and talked people from all over the world something I would have not been able to do with my xbox.  I learned a lot about culture and different way of life while playing games.  I remember we would have a giant voice chat and just talk about life in our countries from all spectrums of life is was pretty amazing most people would not expect this kind of experience from a gaming system.  Its amazing to thing about all I have done with just three devices not to mention the others that are not in my top three.  One obvious similarity with all my devices is that they are all internet ready.  But looking more deeply is how they connected my to the entire world.  Musically, culturally and socially I am at all times connected to the world ready to learn know things about all aspects of life.  After viewing the Video "Changing to Learn Learning to Change"  I felt like my amazing experiences with my devices very common among my peers.  Cellphone is most likely the number one thing however they way each person used it was a little different aside from what a PHONE is used for.   As I recall nobody including myself said "I used my phone to call people".  Just something think about when looking at what a cellphone means to life today.  More pictures are taken iphones than cameras...freaky how a phone is taken place of almost every type of technology.  When I think about how my three top "tech toys" and how they could impact me as a teacher given the right teaching situation there are not limits.  I could use a computer programs that student log into to and practice.  This way I could not only see if the are practicing at all but also if there are practicing the right which one can not always tell from just seeing a student once a week.  This would also help those administrators who do not understand music see some physical an concrete scores that would serve as assessment.  Example how many correct and in tune notes did this student play.  There no doubt that the next games system could have a game that involved real acoustic instruments that would serve as controllers while teaching people how to really play the instrument.  Its crazy what technology can do and has done my life and what it will do.  Its all advances so fast and taking over all our lives I just hope one we don't create some type of technology that can think for it self I think thats when we will be in serious trouble!!!!
